Name: Vika Mathis
Occupation: White Tower Novice
Appearance: Vika is 5’3” tall and of slender build. Her hair is nut brown and a little longer than shoulder length. Her eyes are brown and she has tanned skin from spending a lot of time outside. Many would consider her to be pretty.
Vika was born in Tear, and shortly after her birth, her mother passed away. Her father Veeras, a humble gleeman, however, did not attribute his wife's death to his daughter. He raised Vika with love and decided to stay in Tear to raise his daughter until she could travel. At the age of four, Vika showed musical talent, being able to quickly catch on to her father's songs. Veeras encouraged this, and began teaching the girl how to play the harp and the flute. She learned how to sing as well.
As Vika continued to grow, her father taught her other skills, training her to become a gleewoman herself. She showed significant promise and was very happy with this. Her father began to travel again, and Vika went with him, learning the customs of many different lands as she learned songs, stories, juggling skills, and fine tuned her skills as a musician. Vika was discovered to have perfect pitch and this helped her immensely in her training.
On her fifteenth name day, Veeras gave her two gifts that she was very excited to see. The first was a colorful, patched gleeman's cloak, and the second was a beautiful new harp. She loved these gifts and treasures them above all other things that she owns. She felt like a real gleewoman at this time.
After she turned sixteen, her father became ill. Thankfully, they were home in Tear when this happened. Vika would often go to inns to play, juggle, and tell tales, earning money to buy food and take care of her ill father. Her father had money that he had saved, but Vika didn't want to dig into it, preferring to work to take care of her father as he had taken care of her. On one day, she was sitting by her father's side, and holding his hand, she wished he would get better. She didn't want to lose him. Little did she know, she was born with the spark of saidar and her power manifested itself, healing her father's illness. Veeras, in his younger days, had experienced Aes Sedai healing when he had fallen earlier in his gleeman career, understood what had happened, and being Tairen, he made arrangements immediately for her to go to Tar Valon.
"I don't want to go," Vika protested. "I don't care about the One Power. I want to be a gleewoman."
"You know the law, daughter," Veeras said, his tone harsh. "You will go to the White Tower."
Vika felt abandoned by her father by this. As she traveled towards the White Tower, she spent most of her time sulking in her room on board the river vessel. Her pain turned into anger, and at the first town that the boat stopped at, she ran away. Having been paid to see the girl to Tar Valon, the Captain sent people looking for her. Vika was found and brought back to the ship. The Captain then set guards anytime they got to a port to ensure she stayed on board.
When they arrived at Tar Valon, she was escorted to the White Tower, and her name was put into the Novice book. Having brought her harp and cloak with her, they were taken and replaced with the white garb of a Novice. Vika's anger seethed at the theft and she hated the Aes Sedai even more. The girl wants nothing to do with Aes Sedai or the One Power, and she has taken to being insolent and avoiding lessons or chores. Her hope is that they kick her out of the White Tower, so she can go be a gleewoman on her own. She quickly gained a reputation amongst many of the teachers for her insolence and refusal to do her lessons. As a result, she has visited the Mistress of Novices office many times.
Note: Power wise, Vika is fairly strong having been born with the spark. She has a natural affinity for healing. At the start of her first thread she will have been at the Tower for only a couple of weeks.
